His research has influenced development of indoor air sciences in many aspects most dominantly through his studies on the effects of indoor environment on office work by adults and on schoolwork by children, and understanding the impact of air quality on human well-being. He carried out multiple laboratory chamber experiments with human subjects (equivalent to >5,000 subject hours) and field experiments (in >100 buildings). Prof. Prashant Kumar is Chair in Air Quality and Health, the founding Director of the Global Centre for Clean Air Research (GCARE), the founding Co-Director of the Institute for Sustainability, and the founder of Guilford Living Lab, and the Trustee of Zero Carbon Guildford. He obtained his PhD (Engineering) from the University of Cambridge (UK) after winning a Cambridge-Nehru Scholarship and Overseas Research Scholarship award. He earned his Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering & Management from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, with 9.8/10 CGPA and won the ‘Outstanding Postgraduate Student Award’ for his exemplary performance. Winner of the 2023 “Haagen-Smit Clean Air Award,” regarded as the "Nobel Prize in Clean Air Achievements," he was recognised as a top 1% Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate in 2022, 2023 and 2024. He received the University of Surrey’s Vice-Chancellor Award for Researcher of the Year in 2017, and his recent paper on green infrastructure won the “2023 Haagen-Smit Prize for Best Paper” from Elsevier. With over 500 journal articles published in prestigious journals like Science, Nature Cities, and Chemical Society Reviews, he has garnered ~38,000 citations (h-index=94, i10-index=440). He has successfully secured over £20M in individual research funding from UKRI, including roles as Principal Investigator on the £1.45M RECLAIM Network Plus and £2M GP4Streets projects (around urban greening and climate adaptation), as well as support from industry and international organizations. Dr. Ravi Kumar Kunchala received his Master’s degree (2008) in Meteorology from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. Upon the completion of Master’s, he joined at Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune to pursue PhD in November, 2008 and submitted the doctoral thesis entitles on “A study of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) transport over India using observations and modeling techniques” in Atmospheric and Space Sciences at University of Pune in Sep,2014. He then moved to Japan Agency for Marine Earth Science and Technology (JAMSATEC), Japan to continue research as a Post-Doctoral Researcher, where he worked in “GRENE-Arctic Climate Change”. Then he further worked as Post-Doctoral Researcher in a Indo-German Project at IITM, Pune and at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia before joining at Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in March, 2018 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Kunchala's broad research interests is to focus on the key issues of Greenhouse Gases transport mechanisms relevant to the Indian subcontinent mainly on the role of Asian monsoons on transport pathways and spatial variabilities of GHG over the Indian subcontinent using ground based measurements, multi-satellite retrieved data sets and as well as global and regional modeling approaches. He continued research on focusing the impact of climate forcings on spatio-temporal variability of CO2 over Indian subcontinent. His research areas also focusing on the regional transport modeling for the trace gases as well.
